Your work desk is your niche, an area where you spend almost half of your waking hours. Don’t you think the way your work space looks affect your output? Of course, it does.
A clean desk feels fresh and gives you a calm energy to work better. A messy desk on the other hand, gets in the way and distracts your focus.
This article is dedicated to all those designers out there whose desk are a mess, I know. All of you are so absorbed in getting the right colors and layouts that your desk must look like a fish market.
A creative professional like a web designer needs inspiration time and again. So, they need to
So, note down these five tips to organize your work desk and stay productive all year round.
1. Set up your layout
First thing you need to do is get your layout right. I am sure, as a designer, you have multiple monitors on your desk. Place them properly in front of your eye-level and at a distance of about 20 inches from your body. If you’re having to move around your monitor every now and then, this means that the position is not right. Also, adjust your keyboard and mouse suitable to the desk.
2. Organize your office supplies
Don’t scatter your pens and papers all over the desk. Keep them in an organized manner – the best way to do this is to put the daily used materials on the desk whereas seldom used supplies should be stored in a side box or drawer. Also, put similar items together and not anywhere and everywhere. This will make it easier for you to find it when needed.
3. Put your personal things at bay
Having personal items like flower pots, family pictures and mementos sure give you a positive boost to work but too many of these will only distract you. The more items you have on your desk, the more you’ll have to clean; also, more distractions. So, just keep one or two of them for moral support and get rid of all the others.
4. Clear up every day
At the end of the day, before you leave, make sure to clear up your desk. Any chocolate wrappers, paper pieces or any bits, throw it in the trash can. Also, stack your papers and stationary and put them away. By doing so, the first thing you see when you come in the next day is a clean desk. I am sure you will agree to the fact that cleaning every day will be easier and simpler rather than cleaning once in a blue moon.
As said by Barbara Hemphill, “Paper clutter is no more than postponed decisions.”
Don’t let a messy desk get in the way of your productivity. Follow these simple ideas and see significant improvement in your productivity.
